DISCO 1:

Cara A:

1. Robert Wyatt - Yesterday Man (3.07)
2. Mike Oldfield - Don Alfonso (versión extendida) (6.04)
3. Ivor Cutler - Go And Sit Upon The Grass (2.20)

2. Kevin Coyne - Looking For The River (3.06)
3. Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Mirror Man (4.42)
4. Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Upon The My-O-My (4.00)

DISCO 2:

Cara C:

1. Slapp Happy / Henry Cow - Extract From The Messiah (1.45)
2. Slapp Happy / Henry Cow - A Worm Is At Work (1.48) (ambas canciones extraidas del álbum Desperate Straights de la unión de ambas formaciones)
3. Tom Newman - Sad Sing (2.17)
4. Tom Newman - Superman (3.30) (ambas canciones extraidas de su álbum "Fine Old Tom")
5. Chili Charles - Semba (3.20)
6. Jabula - Baile (They Are Gone) (4.33) (la sección de percusión de este grupo tuvo un notable protagonismo en el álbum "Ommadawn" de Mike Oldfield)

Cara D:

1. Clearlight Symphony (Cyrille Verdeaux) - Extract From Part 1 (4.00)
2. Hatfield And The North - Your Majesty Is Like A Cream Donut (incorporating "Oh What A Lovely Lifetime") (6.08)
4. White Noise II (David Vorhaus) - Extract From White Noise II (4.00)
5. Steve Hillage - Pentagramaspinn (5.45)

UK: Virgin 2LP: VD 2502
Francia: Virgin/CPF 2LP: 940 801/2
Alemania: Virgin/Ariola 2LP: 88 588 XBT

July - July (1968, Major Minor)

July were a psychedelic rock band from Ealing, London that were professionally active between 1968 and 1969. The band's music was a blend of psychedelic rock and pop, marked by lush harmonies, acoustic guitars, keyboards, and intricate lead guitar work. Although none of the band's records managed to chart in the UK or the U.S., July are today best remembered for their songs "My Clown", "Dandelion Seeds", and "The Way", which have all been included on a number of compilation albums over the years.

There is some dispute regarding the band's origin: according to encyclopaedia author Colin Larkin, the Allmusic website, and a number of other sources, the band's origin can be traced back to a late 1950s skiffle group named the Playboys, which later transitioned into a rhythm and blues band and changed their name to The Thoughts, before finally becoming The Tomcats. However, in a 2009 podcast interview the band members themselves disputed this history, calling it "a misunderstanding". According to the band, they initially formed in the early 1960s as The Dreamers and began playing music that was influenced by The Shadows and the Everly Brothers amongst others. The Dreamers soon changed their name to The Tomcats, however, due to the national success that Freddie and the Dreamers were enjoying at the time, and they also transitioned into playing harder rhythm and blues music, influenced by the likes of Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. The original Tomcats' line-up included guitarist and singer Tom Newman, bassist Alan James, lead guitarist Peter Cook, and drummer Chris Jackson, but this incarnation of the band broke up in 1965. Alan James has stated that it was Newman's father who suggested The Tomcats as a new name, which the group then used.

Meanwhile, another London based R&B group, named Second Thoughts, came together in 1965. Second Thoughts included conga player, flautist and keyboardist Jon Field, guitarist Tony Duhig, lead singer Patrick Campbell-Lyons, and future member of Thunderclap Newman John "Speedy" Keen among its members. Like The Tomcats, Second Thoughts also broke up in 1965, with singer Patrick Campbell-Lyons departing to form the psychedelic rock band Nirvana with Alex Spyropoulos. Soon after, a new line-up of The Tomcats came together, featuring members of the original band and ex-members of Second Thoughts: Newman on vocals, Duhig on guitar, Field on flute/keyboards, James on bass, and Jackson on drums.[ The Tomcats then relocated to Spain and enjoyed success there during 1966 as "Los Tomcats", playing gigs in Madrid, Barcelona, and the Canary Islands, as well as reaching the Spanish charts with a string of EPs.

After returning to London, Newman and his friend Pete Cook (who had been in the first incarnation of The Tomcats) began writing new material for the group that was less R&B influenced and more psychedelic in nature. The band changed their name to July in 1968 and secured a recording contract with Major Minor Records soon after. The band, who were by now managed by Spencer Davis, released "My Clown" b/w "Dandelion Seeds" as their first single in 1968, but it failed to reach the UK Singles Chart. The band also issued a self-titled album in 1968, but this too failed to reach the charts. Newman was later (in a 1975 interview) to recall the description by one reviewer who said that "it was the worst album they'd ever heard and a complete waste of plastic". In the years since its release, the July album has become a much sought after rarity among collectors of British psychedelia. A second single was released, coupling the non-album song "Hello, Who's There?" with "The Way" but again, this release was a commercial failure.

July disbanded in 1969, with Duhig going on to play in the band Unit 4 + 2, before hooking up with Field and vocalist Glyn Havard to form Jade Warrior. Newman released a number of solo albums (Fine Old Tom, Faerie Symphony, Live at the Argonaut, Aspects, Bayou Moon, Tall Scary Things, Snow Blind...) and also produced several albums for other artists, including Mike Oldfield (Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge, Platinum, Amarok, Tubular Bells II, and Heaven's Open).

In the years since the band's demise, the July album has been reissued a number of times by different record labels. There have also been two compilations released by the band: the 1987 LP Dandelion Seeds, which features all of the tracks from the July album and both sides of the "Hello, Who's There?" single; and 1995's The Second of July, which contains previously unreleased alternate versions and outtakes. In addition, songs by July have appeared on a number of various artists compilations, including The British Psychedelic Trip, Vol. 2, It's Only a Passing Phase, Electric Psychedelic Sitar Headswirlers, Vol. 1, The Great British Psychedelic Trip Vol 3: 1965–1970, Acid Drops, Spacedust, & Flying Saucers: Psychedelic Confectionery, and Insane Times: 25 British Psychedelic Artefacts from the EMI Vaults.

In 2009, Tom Newman, Pete Cook, Chris Jackson, and Alan James reformed July.

The Beatles - Yellow Submarine, la película (1968)

Pink Floyd - The Last Gadgets Of Oxyminus (1969)

Bootleg concert containing two live sets 17 Sep 1969, (1-7) Amsterdam Concertgebouw, London, January - August '69 (8 - 10).

Seven of the recorded tracks also surface on the Amsterdam '69 ROIO. Several species... should read Grantchester Meadows (excellent version, imho). The jazzy Biding my Time is transformed into heavy metal by Dave's rocking solo, really great. Excellent version of Cymbaline, imho. ASOS doesn't contain the lead vocals by Dave (this one is quite bad quality). The first Green is the colour is sang by Roger, the second is by Dave. Quite good quality, what makes this ROIO great is the great mood it can create. Also the performances are very strong. - Zaphy

Pink Floyd - The Man And The Journey (1969)

Live at the Concertgebow, Amsterdam, Sept. 17, 1969.

Label: Great Dane Records
Cat. nº: GDR CD 9207
Country: Italy
Date release: 1992
Not for sale - For promotional use only

The Man and the Journey is the name of a conceptual music piece performed at Pink Floyd live shows in 1969. It consists of several of their early songs coupled with material that would appear on Soundtrack from the Film More and Ummagumma, as well as unreleased songs. The material was incorporated into two album-length suites, The Man and The Journey. The concerts also included visual performance elements such as the sawing and construction of a table and consumption of afternoon tea onstage.

The concept was first performed 14 April, 1969 at the Royal Festival Hall in a show billed as The Massed Gadgets of Auximenes - More Furious Madness from Pink Floyd. A truncated version of the show was recorded 12 May, 1969 for the Top Gear radio programme. The 17 September performance at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam is the most widely bootlegged of the shows on the tour because it was broadcast by radio station VPRO. Plans for an official live album release of The Man and the Journey were considered, but abandoned due to overlap of material with Ummagumma.

To most fans, the work is either entirely unknown or at least unrecognized as the genesis of Pink Floyd's 'themed pieces'. The band themselves have seldom made reference to it in later interviews. Yet the unique combination of quadraphonic sound effects, abstract program music, and recursive themes — all of which can be traced to The Man and The Journey — were to become further developed in the band's most enduring music.

Tracklist:

Part I: The Man

1. "Daybreak, Pt. I" ("Grantchester Meadows", from Ummagumma) 8:09
2. "Work" (Percussion and vibraphone with musical sawing & hammering) 3:50
3. "Teatime" (Pink Floyd were served tea on stage at this point)
4. "Afternoon" ("Biding My Time", from Relics) 5:15
5. "Doing It!" ("The Grand Vizier's Garden Party (Entertainment)" [6:12 onwards], from Ummagumma, or in some performances it was replaced by a unique combination of "Up the Khyber" [from More] and an early "Heart Beat Pig Meat" [from Zabriskie Point]) 3:49
6. "Sleep" ("Quicksilver", from Soundtrack from the Film More) 4:40
7. "Nightmare" ("Cymbaline", from More) 8:57
8. "Daybreak, Pt. II" ("Grantchester Meadows" instrumental reprise, with alarm clock sound effects) 1:13

Part II: The Journey

1. "The Beginning" ("Green Is the Colour", from Soundtrack from the Film More) 4:49
2. "Beset By Creatures of the Deep" ("Careful with That Axe, Eugene") 6:18
3. "The Narrow Way" ("The Narrow Way, Part 3", from Ummagumma) 5:09
4. "The Pink Jungle" ("Pow R. Toc H.", from The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, or in some performances a unique instrumental, similar to "Nick's Boogie") 4:49
5. "The Labyrinths of Auximines" (Part of "Interstellar Overdrive", from The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, a riff commonly played during the middle, not the main riff) 6:34
6. "Behold the Temple of Light" (A few seconds of this piece is heard on Ummagumma just before "The Narrow Way, part 3", greatly expanded here) 5:28
7. "The End of the Beginning" ("A Saucerful of Secrets, Pt. IV - Celestial Voices" [8:38 onwards], from A Saucerful of Secrets) 6:14

Eric Burdon & The Animals - Winds Of Change (1967)

-

After the original Geordie Animals collapsed in 1966, Tyneside blues boy Eric Burdon formed a new version and embraced psychedelia in a rather big way. Consequently, Winds Of Change is the sound of him sledgehammering his doors of perception into matchwood, whereupon he also puts the windows in, and then causes the drains of perception to back up.

How else to explain this completely uninhibited brain spillage on death, hassles with his old lady, how he really digs all kinds of music and why you really want to move to San Francisco right away, played in lumpen-baroque hippy-rock style?

Gloriously, and despite the presence of Dylan/Simon & Garfunkel producer Tom Wilson, it seems there was no steady hand on the tiller here - the church bell on the Hammer film knock-off The Black Plague sounds like the bell on an old London bus, for example, while loopy bongoid rap Man-Woman could have been sung by Lorenzo ‘Love Power’ St Dubois off The Producers. But you can’t legislate for this kind of unhinged variety. A triumph.

Tyrannosaurus Rex - My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair... (1968)

My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair... But Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows is the debut album by British rock band Tyrannosaurus Rex (later known as T. Rex), released in 1968. The record features Marc Bolan on vocals and guitars, and Steve Peregrine Took on backing vocals, drums, pixiephone, and percussion. It also features disc jockey John Peel, who reads a Bolan-penned fairytale for the album's closing track, "Frowning Atahuallpa (My Inca Love)", which includes what must be one of the earliest "Hare Krishna" chants on a British pop record (two years before George Harrison's My Sweet Lord).

The album's music is much influenced by Tyrannosaurus Rex' psychedelic contemporaries, and marks, for Bolan, a rejection of the electric guitar–led freakbeat music he'd been playing with his previous band, John's Children.

Recordings of the songs "Mustang Ford" (single release, titled "Go Go Girl") and "Hot Rod Mama" (live) by John's Children exist.

Released: July 5, 1968
Recorded at Advision Studios, London
Genre: Rock, Psychedelic folk
Length: 33:18
Label: Regal Zonophone, LRZ 1003 (mono), SRZ 1003 (stereo).
