Vangelis - The Dragon (1971)

The other forbidden album by Vangelis, besides Hypothesis (see it in this blog), is another piece of jamming and experimentation with the band the Greek musician joined at early 70's, the same line-up of the other jam session recording mentioned at the London Marquee Studios. To remember them: guitarist Argyris 'Silver' Koulouris, violinist Michel Ripoche, bass guitarist Brian Odger and drummer Mick Waller.

The first track is a 15 minutes long suite in an oriental mood, but too repetitive in its basis. The other tracks are a bit more different in form, perhaps the last one is more accessible to the ear.

Tracklist:

1. The Dragon.
2. Stuffed Aubergine.
3. Stuffed Tomato.

1971-TheDragon 41.86 MB

Released by Charly Records in 1978, only in vinyl LP but there was a CD release made in Hungary by West Line Coop label. The Hungarian CD is still available in selected record stores in Hungary, at least in Budapest. But it can be found, otherwise, via Amazon.

Well, the following film is very different and more recognisable to Vangelis fans. The other "The Dragon" included at China album of 1978, in which we can see Vangelis recording with several instruments in different tracks and in the production process.
